Wood screws are designed to attach two pieces of wood together. They generally feature a smooth, unthreaded shank below the head which ensures a tight attachment, and the threaded portion of the shank is tapered to increase the holding power. Threads specially designed for use in wood effectively resist pulling out.

Silicon Bronze is known as a high-strength alloy that stands up well under harsh conditions, with excellent resistance to corrosion caused by brine, gases, and sulphite solutions. It is also nonmagnetic and has good friction reduction qualities and a high degree of thermal conductivity. Fasteners made from Silicon Bronze are frequently used for marine construction and in applications for liquid handling and sewage disposal equipment.

Flat head fasteners are designed to fit flush to the surface when used with countersunk holes. Length is measured from the top of the head. Square-shaped drive systems are driven with a wrench.
